1956 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe

This wonderful, California, no rust ever (not a speck) '56 Caddy survivor was sitting in a dry storage unit in Bend, Oregon (the high desert) since 1978.

The car was purchased by Harry Lyons of San Fransisco in 1959, he traded in his 1941 Caddy for this car. He bought it so he would have a car to take to Reno. Harry died in 1972 and left the car to his nephew Bob Zimmer.

Bob moved to Bend in 1974 and the Cadillac came with him. He used it for a pleasure cruiser for a few more years. In 1978 he took a new job in Portland but decided to store the Cadillac in Bend's dry climate. He backed it into the storage unit intending to come back for it. Instead he paid the storage bill every month for 44 years! Bob is now in his early 90's and realized it was time to sell.

The car is completely rust free and fairly original. It was painted sometime in the mid 1960's from its original white and blue to Cameo Ivory and white. Miles are unknown, Bob said the odometer quit while Harry still had it. A compression test showed all cylinders between 145 psi. and 150psi.

Some recent work done:

  • Complete brake job, wheel cylinders, rebuilt treadle vac, hoses etc.

  • Carburetor and fuel pump rebuild

  • Complete tune up

  • Exhaust system

  • New radial wide whites

  • Belts and hoses

  • All fluids changed

  • Fuel tank cleaned and lined

  • New fuel sending unit

  • New battery

  • Rebuilt original generator and voltage regulator

  • Broadcloth fabric and vinyl purchased from SMS auto fabrics to re-upholster the front seat

The car cleaned up nicely and runs and drives very well. The transmission is smooth, has no problem driving in ninety degree weather while staying with traffic. It glides along and is very tight, just a pleasure to drive and people absolutely love it!

The clock, radio and power antenna are not working. The power seat moves in 2 directions. All lights, gauges and signals work properly.

This is a great Caddy to enjoy and upgrade/restore while still using it. I had plans of doing more but I will be moving cross country and just can't take her with me. It is time to pass on Uncle Harry's Cadillac to the next caretaker.
